What Does the TMSC York Mills Clinic Treat?

The Minor Surgery Center focuses on the assessment and surgical management of skin lesions and minor hand conditions.

Every patient's situation is different. The appropriate treatment depends on the diagnosis, location of the concern, symptoms, medical history and the clinical assessment of the treating physician.

Some of the conditions treated at TMSC include the following.

Mole Assessment and Removal

Moles can be removed for several reasons. Some patients are concerned about a mole's appearance or physical irritation, while others have a specific lesion that has changed or has been recommended for biopsy or removal.

TMSC provides personalized surgical planning based on factors including the mole's size, location and clinical features.

Patients who have already been advised to have a specific mole removed or biopsied can book for surgical consultation and treatment planning. Mole checks and full-body skin checks, where offered by TMSC, are performed by GP Dermatologists, while Plastic Surgeons perform biopsy, excision and surgical removal when appropriate. Cyst Removal

Cysts can develop in different areas of the body and may become uncomfortable, inflamed or bothersome because of their size or location.

At TMSC, patients can be assessed for the surgical removal of common cyst types, including epidermoid, pilar and commonly called sebaceous cysts.

The surgical approach is selected based on the individual cyst and its location, with attention given to safe removal and scar placement.

Lipoma Removal

A lipoma is generally a benign growth made up of fatty tissue. Although many lipomas do not require treatment, some patients seek removal because the lump is uncomfortable, increasing in size, causing irritation or creating a cosmetic concern.

TMSC offers consultation and surgical treatment planning for lipomas. The approach is tailored to factors such as the lipoma's location, size and clinical features. (The Minor Surgery Center)

Skin Cancer Surgery and Treatment

The York Mills clinic also provides access to surgical care for skin cancer.

TMSC's skin cancer services include treatment for:

  • Basal cell carcinoma, also known as BCC
  • Squamous cell carcinoma, also known as SCC
  • Melanoma

The appropriate pathway depends on the patient's diagnosis, pathology, lesion location and other clinical factors.

TMSC's Plastic Surgeons perform surgical excision of skin cancers, including cancers located on visible or anatomically sensitive areas where surgical planning and reconstruction may require particular attention. TMSC currently has dedicated condition pages for BCC, SCC and melanoma treatment. (The Minor Surgery Center)

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Treatment

Carpal tunnel syndrome occurs when the median nerve becomes compressed or irritated as it passes through the carpal tunnel in the wrist. Common symptoms can include numbness, tingling and discomfort affecting parts of the hand. (The Minor Surgery Center)

At TMSC, patients can receive assessment and treatment planning for carpal tunnel syndrome. Depending on the individual situation, management may involve non-surgical measures or surgical treatment such as carpal tunnel release.

Trigger Finger Treatment

Trigger finger can cause a finger or thumb to catch, lock or become difficult to move comfortably.

At TMSC, patients can be assessed and receive a personalized treatment plan based on their symptoms and the severity and duration of the condition. Treatment options can include non-surgical management or surgical treatment when appropriate. (The Minor Surgery Center)

A Convenient Minor Surgery Clinic in York Mills

The new clinic at 85 Scarsdale Road gives patients in the York Mills and Don Mills area another option for accessing specialized minor surgical care.

The clinic has been designed around patient comfort, safety and efficiency. The current York Mills clinic page highlights its sterilization protocols, surgical equipment and focus on creating a comfortable patient experience. (The Minor Surgery Center)

For someone living or working in North York, the new location can be particularly convenient for concerns such as:

  • A mole that has been recommended for removal
  • A persistent or uncomfortable cyst
  • A bothersome lipoma
  • A diagnosed skin cancer requiring surgical treatment
  • Symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Trigger finger or trigger thumb

Patients who are unsure which service is appropriate can contact the TMSC team to discuss the next step.

Can Consultation and Treatment Be Completed on the Same Day?

In many cases, TMSC may be able to schedule and complete minor surgery on the same day as the initial consultation. This depends on the condition, medical appropriateness, provider recommendation, clinic timing and availability. (The Minor Surgery Center)

Not every condition should or can be treated immediately. Some cases may require further investigation, pathology, additional planning or referral to another appropriate specialist.

The goal is not to rush treatment. It is to reduce unnecessary delays when a condition has been appropriately assessed and treatment can safely move forward.

Do You Need a Referral to Visit TMSC York Mills?

The York Mills clinic provides no-referral access for its minor skin and hand surgery services. Patients can contact TMSC directly to discuss booking and available care. (The Minor Surgery Center)

For patients with a specific mole or skin lesion, the correct booking pathway can depend on whether they need a general skin assessment or already have a lesion that has been recommended for biopsy, excision or removal.

TMSC distinguishes between skin checks performed by GP Dermatologists and surgical procedures performed by Plastic Surgeons. (The Minor Surgery Center)
